Jacob here, and I’m beyond excited to share the incredible journey we embarked on this past weekend with The Broken Movement Charitable Trust. Our inaugural men’s mental health program, Wānanga Pūkorero, was nothing short of transformative, and I can’t wait to share!
You know, when most people hear “TRAUMA” or “DEPRESSION,” it usually triggers concern and worry. But for us at The Broken Movement, these words light a fire of passion and a determination to find solutions. Vulnerability isn’t something we shy away from; instead, we embrace it, opening our hearts and souls to heal, learn, and grow.
This weekend was a game-changer, thanks to the support of 16 incredible men and 5 dedicated facilitators. Together, we aimed to create a space where healing could thrive, allowing Tāne to be vulnerable, release trauma, and rediscover their identity and purpose. And let me tell you, it surpassed all our expectations.
The Broken Movement Charitable Trust proudly launched the first of many programs, focusing on men’s mental health and trauma. The transformations we witnessed were beyond anything we could have imagined. The Tāne who joined us discovered healing, peace, identity, and connections that had been lost due to unfortunate life events leading to trauma.
A massive shout-out to everyone who played a part in this—participants who poured their hearts into the process, facilitators, and coordinators who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. You, Tāne, are the true kings of your kingdoms, and now, your leaders within leaders, ready to be the change you want to see in the world.
Special thanks to Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu for having faith in us and our kaupapa. Your support means the world to us.
Our T-shirt quote from the weekend perfectly sums it up: “Learning to love yourself so you can best love your family.” It encapsulates the essence of what we aimed to achieve.
This experience has filled my heart to the brim. I feel blessed to be part of The Broken Movement Charitable Trust and grateful for the trust and faith you, our incredible participants, placed in us to help you on your journey.
To everyone who donated their time, energy, and support to our cause—thank you. The list of people to thank is long, and our gratitude is eternal.
As we wrap up this successful weekend, I’m incredibly excited about the journey ahead. The Broken Movement Charitable Trust, together with amazing individuals like you, has ignited a spark—a journey towards healing, self-discovery, and empowerment that has only just begun.
Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s continue this journey together!
